I have been studying successful sales people since I was 12 years old. I love selling. I love helping people. And, I love the commissions. How about you? When you sell something to someone that they truly want and need, there is no greater satisfaction in the world. But being successful goes beyond product and presentation.
Being successful in business requires a vision, a well executed plan and constant improvement. It’s no surprise to me that some of the best CEO’s of some of the most successful companies in the world have figured out how to propel their brand to levels of success by following three simple rules for success.
For example, here’s what Twitter Co-Founder Evan Williams says is the single most important thing he has learned in business.
"Do less. When I meet with the founders of a new company, my advice is almost always "do fewer things." The vast majority of things are distractions, and very few really matter to your business."
Here is what Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos and co-founder of the Downtown Project says is the biggest lesson he has learned.
"Embrace accidents. Meet lots of people without trying to extract value from them. You don't need to connect the dots right away. But if you think about each person as a new dot on your canvas, over time, you'll see the full picture. The best things happen when people are running into each other and sharing ideas."
Here is what Union Square Hospitality Group’s founder and CEO Danny Meyer says is his top lesson.
"Slow down. I learned the value of letting a business develop its soul. Soul happens almost as slowly as it takes for a baseball glove to break in: you have to play catch for a really long time."
If you follow these three rules, success will follow you.
